Who We Are
The principals of xPatria are experts in their respective fields. Though we are a newly established company, our principals have almost 50 years collective experience in the business
Greg Durst: An American immigrant who has lived in South Africa for eight years, Greg has survived numerous corporate moves and been through the employee permitting processes numerous times in several countries. In a previous role, he relocated more than 500 IT professionals and their families to South Africa. Greg has also been a banker on Wall Street in New York, a management consultant for McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company and a senior manager for Dimension Data, the largest IT services provider in South Africa. Greg left his previous employer to found xPatria Executive Relocations in September 2005. Greg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
Maya Ingwersen: Having been in the relocations business for 11 years, Maya is well acquainted with what families experience when moving from continent to continent. Along the way, she qualified as an estate agent and worked at Pam Golding Properties as first sales and rentals agent. This has significantly enhanced her experience in the residential property industry. From Sandown to Sunninghill, she has an excellent knowledge of the suburbs that comprise northern Johannesburg, including streets, schools, sports and shopping facilities.
Maya holds a degree in Fine Art from the University of Stellenbosch. She was a professional photographer and has her name on the covers of three books, Estate Wines of South Africa and The Relaxed Hostess and its Afrikaans counterpart, Die Ontspanne Gasvrou. In addition to English and Afrikaans, Maya speaks and writes German fluently, and has a good knowledge of Dutch.
Hazel Klein: Hazel is xPatria's resident tax expert. Hazel has been practicing tax compliance in South Africa for more than 22 years. She brings her vast experience of South African individual tax compliance and deep understanding of South African legislation to xPatria. As South Africa recently changed its tax laws to a residence-based taxation system, it goes without saying that expatriates working in South Africa are required to comply with South Africa tax requirements. Hazel's excellent reputation precedes her and her integrity has proven to be unquestionable. Hazel has worked for some of the most prestigious taxation and accounting firms in South Africa. When she saw an opportunity to service her clients on a more personal and individual level, she left one of the Big Four accounting firms to establish xPatria's Taxation Services in April 2005.
Margo Riley: Margo, a licensed Immigration Practitioner, is xPatria's immigration expert, overseeing all our interactions with the Department of Home Affairs locally and with the South African missions abroad. She has over 15 years experience in immigration services and has been a member of the Association of Immigration Practitioners of South Africa since its inception. She was intrinsic in establishing and developing the Global Visa Solutions division for the South African office of the largest global accounting firm. After almost 14 years with the firm, she left to establish xPatria - Immigration Services in March 2005. With a 100% success rate in all categories of Temporary and Permanent South African residence applications, she concentrates on absolute compliance with the South African Immigration Act as well the highest level of individual customer service - a trait that has stood her in good stead with numerous international companies and the immigration authorities of South Africa.
Having lived in the United States for four years and in the United Kingdom for just under a year, Margo has first-hand knowledge of the intricacies of global relocation and the associated stress that expatriates encounter.Bearing this in mind, it is xPatria's goal to make this process as easy and seamless as possible for the assignee and the employer
